I selected these three articles titled " Racist men abuse, spit on kids at dad’s Indian restaurant", “Singapore Airlines offers free passes to tourist hotspots”, “Egyptian high school students say system is 'unfair', stage protests”. I have chosen article about racist because it happened to me in similar situation. Also, because I plan to go Singapore during vacation, I picked article about Singapore airlines. Lastly, I am interested in Egypt’s education system and when I read this article's title, “Egyptian high school students say system is 'unfair', stage protests” it caught my eyes.
I have chosen the article "Racist men abuse, spit on kids at dad’s Indian restaurant" from the Won Ji Hey’s blog because of my similar experience. According to the article, two racists in Australia made racist comment to two children in Indian restaurant. For that reason Australia government prohibited them from going near to that restaurant again. The owner of the blog has said that no one is eligible to discriminate others based on their race and racism should be stopped. I agree to that opinion because I have my own experience of being discriminated by racism when I went to Australia on working holiday visa 2 years ago. Because of such memory, I think those people who discriminate should be punished in harsh manner.
I picked the article "Singapore Airlines offers free passes to tourist hotspots" at Kang Su Ji‘s blog because I planned to go Singapore during the vacation. According to the article, Singapore Airline is offering free pass, for visiting two out of nine tourist attractions in Singapore, to passengers who are riding A380 from Mumbai or Deli. The owner of the blog said that it is the one of the reason that makes visiting Singapore more fascinating. I agree with the comment but, I believe the importance of the article is somewhat questionable because we are not one to benefit from such promotion.
I selected the article “Egyptian high school students say system is 'unfair', stage protests” at Yoon Sung Min's blog because I thought the educational system in Egypt is very similar to that of our country. According to the article, Egyptian students who are protesting against unfair education system gathered in Cairo on 1 July. Yoon rooted for the students in his blog, but I think he shouldn’t have done that because I partly disagree with his opinion. Some people may think it is be better to take exit test rather than using average Grade point average, G.P.A. However, high G.P.A mean the student have put immense effort in his academic work and I agree with the system that allows student to select their major according their G.P.A. It is because, if G.P.A is not used students will only study for exit exam which will make G.P.A and tests taken prior to the exit exam useless.
While comparing these three articles, I could exchange my opinion with fellow students from the same class. We agreed upon some idea, but we also had ideas that were similar but ultimately different. For example, I agreed with Won Ji Hey’s opinion on racism, but only partially agreed or disagreed to the Kang Su Ji’s article that describes benefits of Singapore airline and Yoon Suk Min’s article that talk about students’ protest in Egypt.
