1. Modernday slavery? shopping mall in singapore found to be selling housemaids like commodities

In the article it says that Housemaids are sold as commodities in Singapore, they are sold in shopping more as goods and marketed like any other product. According to the Humanitarian worker in Singapore, he says that the phenomenon has been going on for years and it’s a big business. However, the reading points out that the problem is that these women have to pay placement fee to start the work and end up in debt because they are unable to make up for what they paid for in the beginning. Also, the reading says that there is no law to help the situation.

In my opinion selling housemaid as goods is not so problematic, because it can create jobs and earn them money. The people who work there is probably in desperate need of money and it seems to be important for them to earn money despite of the methods they are taking because most of them are in very bad financial situation. However, I believe it is very serious problem that the government has no laws to help the maids out of the debt. It seems that the maids are not earning much despite of their aggressive marketing and efforts. As mentioned in the reading many ends up in worsened financial situation and it is government’s duty to help them.

2. No shortcomings in the way Indian workers are treated in Singapore

In the article it says that there was riot in Singapore by workers from India. The riot has aroused, in response of the death of a worker in car accident, which Singapore committee has established that the victim was responsible for the death. According to the article, Singapore’s Foreign Minister has said that there is no systemic fallacy in ways that Indian migrant workers are treated, therefore no reason for them to riot and break the laws. Also, the Foreign minister mentions that the actions of the Indian workers cannot be tolerated because they are destroying public property after consuming alcohol.

In my opinion the Indian workers in Singapore have went too far. It can be understood that they are very upset because of the accident that killed one Indian worker. However, it does not give them right to destroy public utility. As mentioned by the Foreign Minister in Singapore, the accident happens to be the victims fault and the workers, by system, is not mistreated. In addition to that the Indian workers should not have attended the riot after drinking alcohol and if they really wanted to send a message, they should have done it without drinking.

3. Singapore offers help in Modi’s smart city project

In the reading it says that Singapore made offer to help India to build the smart city, which is on top the Prime Minister Modi’s agenda. The reading, also, points out that the prime minister wants Singapore to participate in India’s construction process. The Prime Minister wants to improve its ports and port management, skill development, condition of India’s rivers and water solution. According to the reading it mentions that the Singapore is expertise in water management and can be good help to The India’s plan.

In my opinion it is good that Sigapore is helping India with its plan. In this global economy, it is important that each countries trade with each other and share the ability that they have. As mentioned in the reading Singapore has good ability in water management and since India needs such ability to rejuvenate its rivers the trade can help them. Also, since Singapore is considered to have developed its city very well, they can help India to build the smart city that they want.

JAPAN

1. World Cup 2014: Colombia Defeats Japan, 4-1

In the World Cup, Colombia won Japan with a score of 4 to 1. Now, Japan's record is one tie and two losses which is not enough to get them into the Round of 16 while Colombia's record is 3 wins which let them take the top spot of the group.

Since the World Cup season is back in four years, I am enjoying the World Cup games. Also, I watched all the games Japan played since they are also from Asia. I clipped this out since I was sorry for Japan's fail to step onto the Round of 16 which is one of the best soccer playing countries in Asia.

2. How Bad Will South Korea-Japan Relations Get?

As Abe government denied the Kono statement that Kono Yohei , the former Chief Cabinet Secretary, acknowledged the Japanese military's force on comfort women in August, 1993, the relationship between Korea and Japan is now very bad.

Japan shamelessly do not admit their faults. To move forward, they have to admit the faults they made. Since they now deny the statement, the relationship between Korea and Japan only can become worse than ever. It is clipped out wishing this is cleared soon.

3. Japan, North Korea to hold new talks on abductions

On July 1st, Japan holds a conference for the repatriation of their people kidnapped by North Korea during the cold war. Though North Korea argues they only kidnapped 13 people, it is estimated that at least a few hundred people were kidnapped by North Korea.

Even if it is about the politics and also it seems to be a little late to have their people back, I could learn a lot from Japan's effort to save their people. Also, as the relationship between Japan and North Korea can be changed very rapidly through the conversation about this problem, I have to keep my eyes on this problem. That is why I clipped this article.

4. Japan's Takata still tallying costs of air bag recall

More than 10.5 million cars with Takata air bag were recalled over the last five years due to the faulty air bag, and even now more than 0.5 million cars with Takata air bag were being recalled which is history-making issue. This year, the stock price fell to the 70% of its original price.

I read the news about Toyota recalling a lot of cars in the states. The cause of the recall of Takata corporation which made the faulty air bags for Toyota, I realized the problem is not over yet. Since it can be led to a casualty of many people, I clipped it out wishing this problem to be solved soon.

Madagascar

1. Madagascar Might Be Decimated by a Plague of Common Toads

The toad coming from Asia by sea and having great adaptability reproduced very quickly, and the animals ate this toad died because of the poison it had. Also the colossal increase of the number of the toad led to the disturbance of the ecosystem.

A few years ago, the bullfrog was brought into Korea, and it disturbed the food chain of the ecosystem. It became a huge social and biological problem. At that time, a lot of species of Korean protected species became extinct. This way, some kind of animal with high adaptability from other countries or areas can cause the disturbance of the ecosystem. This article covered this problem and that's why it is clipped out.

3. US Congratulates Madagascar on Democratic Milestone

In 2009, the United Stated of America sent a congratulatory message to Madagascar for they had a democratic vote again after the four years of political chaos.

Since Madagascar is known for its beautiful scenery, I didn't know that there was a political chaos. Thank to this article, I've come to know the political situation of Madagascar. The democracy they realized seems to be very valuable since it was earned after several years of the chaos.

Madagascar decided to adopt UN development framework for 2015-2019 which includes UNCTAD assistance. UNCTAD is a organization to address the trade imbalance between the developing countries and the developed countries.

I became to know that Madagascar is a country with only tourism industry and they just joined the UN. Since I want to visit this country in the future, I thought it is nice to know this.
